Warner Bros. Focuses on Live-Service, Mobile Games
In a recent announcement, Warner Bros. has revealed its strategy will shift towards more live-service, mobile, and free-to-play games. J.B. Perrette, the gaming boss at Warner Bros. Discovery, emphasized that they are doubling down on the gaming sector as a place where significant growth opportunities exist.
“Rather than just launching a one-and-done console game, how do we develop a game around, for example, a Hogwarts Legacy or Harry Potter, that is a live service where people can live and work and build and play in that world in an ongoing basis?” Perrette continued.
This shift comes as a surprise, considering Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy was set to be released in 2023 and became the best-selling title within its first 15 years. The game achieved a sales milestone of 22 million copies by the end of 2023.
In late 2023, Insider Gaming reported that Warner Bros. was developing a live service Harry Potter game called “. This game is based on the popular Rocket League gameplay but offers fast-paced and fluid gameplay with a skill gap that players could enjoy.
“Late last year, we anticipated that the game could be nearing a release,” added Insider Gaming.
