Microsoft to Finalize Acquisition of Activision Blizzard Next Week: Report
According to a new report by Tom Warren from The Verge, Microsoft is planning to close its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard next week on October 13, 2023.
Intended Announcement Date
The report cites an anonymous source who claims that Microsoft will announce the conclusion of the 20-month process to buy Call of Duty maker Activision Blizzard on this date.
Regulatory Hurdles
Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard has faced several regulatory hurdles, with the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) being the main obstacles.
Competition and Markets Authority
The CMA has until the end of today to gather opinions on the deal, but it has already provisionally agreed to the acquisition following changes which include Microsoft’s commitment not to withhold Call of Duty from competitors for more than 30 days after its release.
Federal Trade Commission
The FTC, on the other hand, has presented a major challenge to the deal and will appeal the outcome that was given in December that the deal can go ahead.
Leaked Documents
Last month, a slew of leaked documents regarding the deal were made public contact, leading to increased scrutiny from regulators.
Deadline
The Microsoft and Activision deal officially has until October 18, 2023 to close the deal.
