Summer Game Fest 2024 Announced: Live Streaming from YouTube Theater on June 7
Geoff Keighley, host of The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest, announced that the latter will stream live on June 7, 2024 from YouTube Theater in Los Angeles. The show is set to begin at 2 PM Pacific Time and 5 PM Eastern Time.
Multiple Platforms and Tickets
Fans can catch the showcase across multiple platforms, including YouTube and Twitch. Public tickets for the event will go on sale beginning May 7, 2024 at 9 AM Pacific Time.
New Announcements and Trailers
As reported, the Summer Game Fest will feature new video game announcements, first-looks, and trailers. Additionally, there will be “other livestreams and events,” but the nature of these additions remains unconfirmed.
Evolving from E3
The Summer Game Fest marks a new tradition for gamers following the shutdown of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). The ESA has stated that they are exploring ways to evolve E3 and evaluate every aspect of the event, so its return is a possibility.
Keighley’s Response to E3’s Shutdown
Keighley addressed the surprising shutdown of E3, stating that it “sort of killed itself in a way.” However, he did not officially address the industry’s mass layoffs following The Game Awards 2023.
Industry Challenges
Layoffs have been a growing concern in the industry, with PlayStation announcing plans to reduce its global workforce and Sea of Thieves co-developer Radical Forge recently letting go of employees. The Game Awards 2023 also faced criticism from fans for its presentation and perceived lack of focus on the right type of content.
