Microsoft has announced that Bobby Kotick will officially step down as CEO from Activision Blizzard on December 29th. Kotick, who has led the studio known for Call of Duty for decades, departed in October but the news was only confirmed by Microsoft and Activision Blizzard recently.

Although Microsoft has not yet confirmed a replacement for Kotick, the rest of Activision Blizzard’s leadership team will remain mostly intact. Thomas Tippl, Rob Kostich, Mike Ybarra, and Tjodolf Sommestad will report to Matt Booty, the President of Game Content and Studios. Phil Spencer also released a memo acknowledging Kotick’s “invaluable contributions to this industry.”

Spencer reassured fans that there will be “no changes to the structure of how the studios and business units are run.” Any leadership changes, he emphasized, were only intended to provide “clarity and accountability.”
