Insomniac Games Responds to Ransomware Attack and Data Leak
Following the announcement of a ransomware attack on Insomniac Games that resulted in stolen data, the studio has released an official statement.
Emotional Toll on Employees
“Thank you for the outpouring of compassion and unwavering support. We’re deeply saddened and angered about the recent criminal cyberattack on our studio,” Insomniac wrote in a statement published via their Website. “It’s taken an emotional toll on our dev team, and we have focused inwardly for the last several days to support each other,”
Stolen Data Includes Personal Information and Early Development Details
“We are aware that the stolen data includes personal information belonging to our employees, former employees, and independent contractors,” Insomniac continued. “It also includes early development details about Marvel’s Wolverine for PlayStation 5. We continue working quickly to determine what data was impacted,”
Marvel’s Wolverine Development Continues as Planned
“This experience has been extremely distressing for us,” Insomniac added. “However, like Logan, Insomniac is resilient.” The game continues as planned in early production.
Official Information About Marvel’s Wolverine Will Be Shared When Appropriate
“We want everyone to enjoy the games we develop as intended and as our players deserve,” Insomniac stated. “While we appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm, we will share official information about Marvel’s Wolverine when the time is right,”
PlayStation and Sony Remain Silent on Insomniac Hack and Leaks
As of yet, PlayStation Studios and Sony Interactive Entertainment, the parent company of Insomniac Games, have not released an official statement regarding the hack and subsequent data leaks. Insider Gaming has reached out multiple times for comment but has not received a response.
