Call of Duty 2025: A Return to the Future
According to insider information from Insider Gaming, the upcoming Call of Duty installment, currently known as “Saturn,” is taking gamers into the near future. This marks a departure from the series’ recent past, as Call of Duty hasn’t had a game set in the future since Black Ops 4 in 2018.
Sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Sources indicate that Call of Duty 2025 is in development as a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which is set around 2030. Players can look forward to seeing some familiar faces as they face a new adversary following the demise of Menendez.
Changes in Plans for Remastered Maps
Initially, plans called for the release of all Black Ops 2 remastered maps on launch. However, the current plan is to introduce new maps alongside remastered ones at the game’s inception. This modification may be a response to criticisms that Modern Warfare 3 was merely an expansion of its 2022 predecessor.
Major Developments in Call of Duty’s Past
Modern Warfare 3 faced criticism for its short development time (only 16 months) due to a lack of planning and internal changes that left Sledgehammer Games under immense pressure. The game included 16 remastered Modern Warfare 2 maps at launch and a campaign with limited playtime, but despite its apparent shortcomings, it was commercially successful. Infinity Ward is now reportedly working on the next Modern Warfare title.
Innovations and Features in Call of Duty 2025
Details on Call of Duty 2025 are still in flux due to the game’s early stage of development, but it is expected to feature an overhauled movement system, a return of the classic ‘pick 10’ create-a-class, the gunfight game mode, and another year of round-based zombies. There is currently uncertainty regarding the incorporation of the ‘Carry Forward’ from Call of Duty 2024, known as “Warzone 2.0,” due to the significant time jump and shift in the game’s strategy.
Capitalizing on Nostalgia and New Content
Considering Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s impressive sales figures (selling nearly 30 million units), it makes sense for Activision to tap into nostalgia while offering gamers fresh and exciting content in Call of Duty 2025.
