For years, fans have been eagerly anticipating the return of Banjo-Kazooie. Recent reports suggest that their wishes may soon come true.
Insider Reveals Banjo-Kazooie Project in Development at Microsoft
According to NateDrake, a known industry insider on the ResetEra forums, Banjo-Kazooie is currently in development at Microsoft Studios. The game reportedly hasn’t received official approval yet, with the insider stating that it “didn’t get the green light until early last year.”

NateDrake explained. “There is a lot to do and development can change a lot (abandoned ideas, internal reboots, etc.).”
Insider Gaming’s Verification of the Insider’s Claims
It’s important to note that Insider Gaming has not yet independently confirmed NateDrake’s claims. However, the insider has a solid track record when it comes to providing accurate information, as evidenced by their recent revelations about the new Arkane Lyon game (Blade) and a new F-Zero game (F-Zero 99).
Xbox Boss Hints at Banjo-Kazooie Return
Adding further fuel to the rumor mill, Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently acknowledged Banjo-Kazooie fans during an interview. He stated:
“You’ve seen from our history that we haven’t touched every franchise that people would love us to touch — Banjo fans, I hear you,”
“But it is true that, when we find the right team, and the right opportunity, I love going back to revisit stories and characters that we’ve seen previously.”
Last True Console Entry in 2000, Possible Spin-Offs
Banjo-Kazooie’s last true console entry was Banjo-Tooie in 2000. Since then, there have been a couple of handheld games – Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge and Banjo-Pilot for the Game Boy Advance. The 2008 game, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, was a significant departure from the original games and is often considered more of a spin-off than a sequel.
