Chris Matthews Joins 343 Industries as Studio Art Director
According to his LinkedIn profile, industry veteran Chris Matthews has taken on a new role as Studio Art Director at 343 Industries.
A Veteran Artist with Proven Track Record
Matthews brings extensive experience to his new position. He has worked as a lead artist and art director for several years, previously holding positions at Ridgeline Games, Turn 10 Studios, Crytek, and more. Some of his notable projects include Forza Motorsport, the Gears of War franchise, and Crysis.
Excitement for a New Era in Halo
Matthews’ announcement expressed his enthusiasm for “helping lead Halo into an exciting new era.” This comment adds fuel to the speculation that 343 Industries is working on a new Halo project, as hinted by leaks in April 2022.
Mixed Reactions to Halo Infinite
Despite some mixed reviews, Halo Infinite maintains respectable ratings on Metacritic. However, some fans had expressed their disappointment with the studio’s handling of the series in recent years. 343 Industries made a significant shift last month by announcing that Halo Infinite would focus on smaller scale ‘Operations’ updates instead of larger expansions.
A Decade of Growth and Experience
In his announcement, Matthews acknowledged the “hugely turbulent industry” and the layoffs affecting many studios. He noted that earning his new position was a result of over a decade’s worth of learning and growth as an Art Director.
A Familiar Face at Microsoft
Interestingly, Matthews had recently been working at Microsoft, which underwent a major restructuring in its video game workforce last month.
