Epic Games Announces Plans to Launch Mobile Version of Epic Games Store Before Year’s End
During the Game Developers Conference (GDC) showcase, Steve Allison, general manager at Epic Games, made an exciting announcement. Epic Games intends to bring its digital storefront to mobile platforms later this year. Although details were scarce, concept art was displayed to give attendees a sneak peek of the possible design.
Taking on Mobile Gatekeepers: A Clear Reference to Apple and Google
On stage, Allison acknowledged that Epic Games has been “tirelessly fighting” against mobile gatekeepers. This statement was a veiled reference to the ongoing legal disputes with top-tier tech firms over the management of Epic Games’ titles and applications on various devices and in certain regions.
Bypassing Regulations with a Mobile-Based Epic Games Store
To circumvent the restrictions and regulations imposed by these companies, Allison revealed that Epic will be launching its own mobile-based Epic Games Store before the year is over. This announcement also comes with a suite of new self-publishing tools designed specifically for mobile games.
Expanding its Reach: Aiming for the Largest Market Share
Given that Epic Games boasts over 270 million registered player accounts, it’s no surprise that the company is looking to tap into another significant portion of the market – mobile devices. This move will allow Epic Games to expand its reach and continue competing in a fiercely competitive market.
